One participant of "Transition to Data Industry" said that she hates that for getting a job to earn money one needs to spend money and time. We discussed that this is some kind of investment, which pays off rather quickly.
However, the discussion made me think about the cost to get hired in 2024.
As a job seeker myself, I just checked my own expenses.
Here is my spending list:
✔ Resumeworded (because I like tailored CV, but don't want to spend hours doing it for every application)
✔ Huntr (best tool to track process, save job descriptions, pieces of puzzle you collect during the interviews, etc.)
✔ German lessons (never stop learning, especially when you have time)
✔ Mentor (motivation & validation & going out of comfort zone on professional level)
✔ Therapy (motivation & validation & going out of comfort zone on personal level)
✔ Claude subscription (use it mostly for proof-reading my texts in German. Cover Letters I always write myself and only for very limited number of positions)
✔ Midjorney subscription (polishing pictures generated by AI turned out to be very meditative process)
✔ Microsoft Office subscription (I'm this lost generation, who can't get used to free version of Office suite by Google)
✔ Books (have you seen how many great books on ML/AI were released in 2023-2024?!)
✔ Online learning platforms (never stop learning, low budget version)
✔ Tee (the only drag I consume)
✔ Movie tickets (place, where I can't constantly check my inbox)
✔ Gym and tennis trainings (same as above, plus burning out some calories)
All together sums up to ~1300€/month and it's a lot for me.
Some of these expenses just make my life during this phase easier, most of them will have a long lasting effect. Hopefully it will be German lessons and not this crap movie I've seen last week!
I am very well aware that the possibility to work 1:1 with a mentor, coach, etc is a privilege not affordable for many people.
For people, who struggle to break into Data field, but can't afford a personal mentor, in 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 I will host another 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 "𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆". We will meet in three live zoom-sessions and talk about the most crucial things to land your first job in the data field faster: roles and requirements, CV and Interview preparation.
Open to everyone, no PhD is required this time.
But the number of seats is still limited, so hurry up to reserve yours 😉
